- 27 people died in the village due to the tsunami (20 km from Nagapattinam)
- This was the first village Raghavan and Aruna (Anugriha) found where there were no cars standing or relief workers present. Larger villages had a glut of aid.
- Only 10 out of 200 houses still stood after the tsunami. The village was completely destroyed.
- The village was once prosperous (with over 85 boats). All have been damaged/destroyed.
- Long term they were not greedy and asked only as much as they thought correct for us and fair to each other.
- Fisher folk do not trust banks – they keep their earnings at home in small boxes that got washed off along with their homes. They are now left with none.
Anugriha and Asha-Seattle are in the process of also working with a nearby village similarly devastated.
Anugriha has worked hard to get the people up and going, and has organized substantial immediate aid.
