Wayanad Girijana Seva Trust a charitable Institution registered in 2002 with the prime and ultimate objective of educating and re-enrolling the School Drop-Outs amongst the children from the impoverished tribal communities in Wayanad district of Kerala State. As the first step towards achieving this objective the trust started a Residential Tribal Vidyalaya in 2002 and later accredited with National Institute of Open Schooling, HRD Ministry, Govt. of India.
The school started functioning in a thatched shed with 42 children is now having strength of 254 students of 119 boys and 135 girls. The children are hailing from impoverished Tribal community which is characterized by unusual high illiteracy, deprivation, poverty and even starvation deaths. Teaching methodology and techniques conform to the guidelines/specifications as set out by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Scholastic education imparted is under the non- formal stream of education. The pedagogy aims at developing qualitative skills and virtues that make an individual capable of successfully meeting any challenge in life. It is pupil centric and value based stream of education.
