There are an estimated 1,650 children and adults with deafblindness and multiple disabilities living in Vadodara district. Currently, the project is working with 20 children that are deafblind with multiple disabilities. The project's goal is to identify 15 more children with deafblindness & and provide them with the required needs-based individualized education and rehabilitation support services.
The proposed project’s work will focus on the development of required educational service infrastructure, maintaining the established deafblind education and rehabilitation services and strengthening the formation of local parent’s and other network groups for the sustainability of the needs-based specialized educational services.
Disha Special School is the first and the foremost institution in Gujarat which started providing all the therapies and services to the children with Autism and other developmental disabilities under one roof by a team of extremely committed, qualified, trained and certified professionals using evidence based practices, world class curriculum and customized Apps for learning every skill.
Centre of excellence for Autism and developmental disabilities in India. Disha follows a highly structured individualized education and therapy program based on each child’s developmental needs and strengths. It is one of the first Autism Centers in the country to adopt the latest US curriculum (Unique Learning System). In order to develop a sense of self esteem and to gain social acceptance by becoming meaningfully employed in a vocation of self aptitude, all children above 15 years of age undergo an elaborate Skills Development (Vocational Training) program. More than 75% of Disha’s beneficiaries come from Below the Poverty Line families, who receive all the services including medical intervention free of charge. Utmost love and care by the teachers has made Disha a happy and safe learning place.
Disha and Sense India are working on the same project for deafblind children. However, they are registered as two separate projects under ashanet.org because of the new FCRA requirements by the Govt. of India. As per the new norms, neither Sense India can transfer any FCRA money to Disha nor Disha can transfer any FCRA money to Sense India. To support the project, Asha for Education has to bifurcate funds to Sense India and Disha.
