Pervasive challenges remain for several Irula families whose lives have been upended by the
sudden lockdown in response to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic. The primary occupation
of the Irulas is fishing and agriculture. With the lockdown, they have lost their jobs. Many of
them don’t have ration cards and therefore, do not have access to the government aid that is
being handed out. A total of 1,034 Irula families across 39 villages are suffering without food. So far, Kari Siddamma, a long standing ASHA Fellow is coordinating the efforts on the ground.
