The current situation in government primary schools is so pathetic that even thinking about imparting education to the children going there is facetious. Improving education environment at Government primary schools, through micro planning and improved processes, in an organized manner, using Student Volunteers(YOUTH) energy and skills with support of local community & senior learned citizens is the objective of this joint mission. This is a pilot phase of this programme and will be taken at state level in phased manner at next stage.
icareIndia is an entity of the Shyama Memorial Welfare Society (SMWS), a non-profit organization established in 1992 under the Society Act of 1860 by Dr Surya Prakash. Born in 1942, Dr Prakash is a retired senior scientist from CSIR (a government of India research organization). Since 1993, he has been working toward imparting quality and value-based education to underprivileged children in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. SMWS runs an academic institution that offers high quality convent education (up to class 7) to children from poverty-stricken families at minimal fee. The school provides uniforms, shoes, books and stationary to the deserving children free of cost. With state-of-the-art infrastructure, the school sprawls over 4500 square feet and boasts of a library room, computer lab and science lab.

Dr Prakash’s son, Anoop Gupta formally took lead of icareindia on July 11, 2015. After working for more than 16 years in the IT industry across Europe, Anoop returned to India to fulfil his mother’s dream.

In association with the Uttar Pradesh government and Lucknow University, Anoop has linked more than 1700 college students (from 47 universities & colleges) with 100 government primary schools (more than 13500 children) in Lucknow. Under the guidance of DM Lucknow and Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, icareindia’s programmes involve direct administrative participation through a district committee.
