The Sai Seva Sangh Vidya Mandir school aims to provide a solid and holistic educational foundation to children from slums and low-income communities near Moospet, Hyderabad. It aims to bridge the learning gaps and ensure that the children pursue their education. The school is run 100% through individual donations. Asha for Education funds the mid-day meal program and helps fill the gaps in funding for Teacher Salaries.
Asha for Education proposes to fund themid-day meal program for the children for all 6 days of the school week. Apart from that, we intend to provide for Teacher salaries.
The society, a non profit registered NGO based in Hyderabad started in August 1988, when a few like-minded people came together for a common cause to educate underprivileged children in their neighbourhood, providing free shelter to old women, and a cost free support system for a rural Special School for differently abled.
To educate the underprivileged children, the slum that that was chosen was surrounded by small scale industries. With no formal system or infrastructure in place, all that the society had was a purpose to get together as many children as they could from the slums nearby, and teach them how to read and write.
The school started with 26 children. They also introduced extracurricular activities such as art, dance and sports to expose the children to learning opportunities that would go beyond the regular academic curriculum.
Operating out of their own buildings, the school currently educates 286 students from K-10. Apart from education, the students are provided nutrition through the mid-day meal program.
