From being futureless street children …
In 1964, the founder of the organization met some adolescents in the railway station of Madurai, who were begging or working as porters. These children had no interest in neither education nor in leading a better, more comfortable or secure life. The founder had a discussion with them and could understand that it was the poor economic background combined with the lack of concern in the family that made them to be street children. “The right environment and the right kind of encouragement would mould these children to come up in life”, was the thought that pushed him to start a small centre in a leased place near Thirumangalam, Tamil Nadu.
…to bright futures with perspectives
Today, the organisation has several schools assisting around 600 children under residential care and another three hundred children in 4 villages under non-residential care. The children come from a very poor socio- economic background, mostly from the families who live below the poverty line. Their parents are mostly agricultural coolies, construction workers, porters, mill workers etc. Priority is given to orphans, single parent children, and children from sick parents or alcoholic addicted families.
