Nava Jeevan Trust started the child labour eradication programme with the support of Child Relief and You (CRY), Chennai during 1998in the blocks of Alangulam, Pappakudy and Keelapavoor in Tirunelveli District. Since the beginning stage of the project various types of programmes and strategies were designed and the programmes were implemented in the villages. Due to the multipronged strategies and the collective effort of the staff team and the community, the programme has yielded many positive results.

For almost a decade and more Nava Jeevan Trust has been carrying an exemplary task of eradicating Child Labour and preventing abuse of children(both the gendres) being exploited against their will in most cases and illegally thus spoiling their lives in the earliest stages of life, resulting in corrupting the young minds and tempting them to resort to anti social activities. The Chief architect Nalan of NJT has been rendering various services including educating these children by running alternate educational centres aiding them to adopt a civilised social life, in their adult life. Even though percentage of students turning out an improved life style, coming out of such alternate centres may not be very encouraging, while the reasons that can be attributed for such slow results are aplenty. But as the saying in Tamil goes "SUSTAINED EFFORTS FRUCTIFY".
There are more than a score of Townships in the District of Thirunelveli/Palayamkottai, in this southern most corner of Peninsular India, and is beset with all sort of problems like communal clashes, Refugees of other countries, proselytism activities running to promote various nefarious activities, Fishing profession turning into warfare at most of the times etc. The worst factor crowning all is the unemployment problem, together with the unemployable sections of population, as a result of neglect by the haves and not so haves. Children coming out of these milieu cannot be left uncared for. The work of NavaJeevan Trust howsoever small it may be in this so called ironically The Oxford Of India, the district being dotted with lots of educational institutions both private and public.
NJT has adopted nearly 30 hamlets and more for its ventures in various fields. The number of children being educated in various centres running to hundreds; however there are about 50 children who are on the threshold of finishing the secondary school final stage. Some help had been rendered by some philanthropic organisations and associations. and so there are about 3 dozens of children who are waiting to receive the benefaction. They have got all books and stationery that are relevantly needed by them. They sorely need notes and guides, to understand in better style, as they are not attending regular schooling.
