Amba took its first steps towards providing non-formal education in 1997. Work began at Joshi Colony community with a small group of 10 to 15 children. The classes took place in an open courtyard of a local mandir (temple). The work generated a lot of community goodwill and interest. The Organization was registered in 1999. Today, Amba runs an education center for over 200 children and a health center attending to hundreds of patients coming from the adjoining slum clusters.
