Community of Palaiyamkottai (village in south east India) re-builds their houses after every rainy season since rains wash away their mud houses. The community consists of 10 families (39 members) comprising of 23 adults, 10 children and 6 teens. Rat-Catchers by profession, they get paid by the farmers based on the number of rats they catch.

The aim of this project is to raise funds to build permanent houses for these families. This will give them stability, peace and happiness and help them to divert their time and energy more on their livelihood and families.

Bharathi Trust is a non-profit development organization working for the cause of upliftment and empowerment of Irula Tribal communities living in the interior pockets of Thiruvallur district. Since 1990, it has been working among the Irula communities in more than 60 villages spreading over 5 Taluks of the District. It has been conducting a number of development programmes such as Sangam formation, awareness camps, liaison work with government for obtaining development schemes, day care services, motivation centers for eradication of child labor etc.
