Dallas Chapter
Mission: To catalyze socio-economic change through education of underprivileged children in India.
New Page 1

The support-a-child program makes it possible for an individual to sponsor the cost of education or total living expenses for one or more underprivileged children in India. The aim is to support the child financially till he or she completes college or vocational education and is able to support himself or herself. You can become a sponsor for a child in India for as little as $20/month.

Asha's role is to find a suitable education project run by a non-profit organization in India that targets children who are unable to pursue education due to lack of funds. Then Asha endeavors to find sponsors for the children in this project and facilitates linking sponsors with individual children. Asha follows through by disbursing and monitoring the sponsors' funds. It works with both sponsors and the projects in India to obtain regular progress reports of the children and build a strong sponsor-child communication. The sponsor has the opportunity to become a mentor and friend to his sponsored child by writing letters. The sponsor can also arrange a visit with his child through Asha and the project coordinators in India.

We encourage a minimum commitment of one year so that there is no break in the education of the child. However you can make two 6-monthly payments if you need to. For other payment arrangements please email us asha.dallas.sac@gmail.com

Asha for Education Dallas Chapter's Support a Child program currently consists of three projects. The program now has a strength of about 55 children. Some of our support a child recipients have graduated and are now independent citizens supporting more children.

Gram Vikas Trust, Gujarat

Gram Vikas Trust's main goal is to help improve the social and economic conditions of the population in drought prone Bharuch and Narmada districts of Gujarat. They believe that their goal can be achieved mainly through education which creates awareness and enhances self development, action and empowerment. Apart from several education related projects, GVT also chooses children based on need and merit and provide them with scholarships from Asha’s Support a Child program.  This acts as a strong motivating factor for the children and encourages them to go to school.

We have about 28 kids from different villages and from grades two, all the way upto college needing your support. Please sponsor a child for as low as 20$/month. Your support will be utilized for:

  • School books, fees and uniforms

  • Heath Care

  • College fees, hostel accommodation

  • Books

Vatsalya Trust

Vatsalya Trust is a charitable organization which has been working for the past 26 years to rehabilitate destitute handicap, mental retardation, blindness or conditions like HIV or Hepatitis B. These children cannot be given up in adoption due to their challenges and their treatment and upbringing is the trust's responsibility. Donors can support each child for a year by donating $30 per month ($360 for the year).

Here is a breakup of the monthly expenditure which is Rs. 1500 ($30):
45 % on Food & Provision (Rs. 675/-)
