Asha for Education is a secular
organization, which promotes basic education in India. We, at Asha, believe that
the promotion of basic education will ultimately effect the much needed
socio-economic change that needs to occur in India. Today, there are 66 Asha
chapters worldwide- 45 in the United States, 14 in India and 7 in Europe,
Singapore and Australia. Individual Asha chapters identify, research, and own
projects in India. They provide funding and sustain projects that focus on
primary education without any regional, religious or gender based bias.
Asha raises funds for its
projects in a number of creative ways: individual donations, corporate
donations, sale of merchandise (T-shirts, calendars, mugs, greeting cards, etc.)
designed by Asha volunteers, fundraising dinners, Indian classical music and
dance concerts, popular music concerts and running marathons to name a few. Till
date, Asha has supported more than 385 different projects spanning 22 states in
India, with almost $4,000,000 in aid being disbursed since Asha's inception.
Asha Dallas, which was started in
1997 by a handful of young professionals, has now grown into an organization
with several dozens of volunteers. We are a diverse and dynamic group of working
professionals and students from in and around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
We currently support more than10 projects in different states in India.
