“The education system has a tremendous responsibility to transform a child into a leader – the transformation from ‘What can you do for me’ to ‘What can I do for you?”-A P J Abdul Kalam
Hello My Dear Friends,
I am taking part in the “Bank Of America Chicago Marathon” on Oct 7th 2012 a course length of 26.2 miles(43Km) with 45000 runners around the world. It is one of the five World Marathon Majors! Most of them running to support a cause and to raise fund for a charity organisation each individual believe in.Participants must be capable of completing the full distance, start line to finish line, within event time requirement (6 hours, 30 minutes). And am representing “Team Asha” as a runner in 25-29yrs male category. My goal is to complete the race in 5 Hr 30 Min & to raise a fund of $1000 or more.
MY MOTIVATION: Necessity of Education for underprivileged children in India.
“Light Of Asia”- A primary school run by my parents since 1980. I have personally witnessed the issues faced by the underprivileged children, being brought up in this environment from my childhood. Here we cater to the needs of many children who have discontinued there studies due to poverty and not being able to afford the basic primary education.
This is just a tiny pixel in a big picture, and “Asha For Education” is trying to address this bigger issue. Having personally seen the craving for education in the young budding talent, I am motivated to support this initiative – The reason for me to run for this marathon.
Why “ASHA For Education”?
“Asha is a global non-profit organisation dedicated to catalyzing socio-economic change in India through the education of underprivileged children”
Created by three students at Berkeley in 1991, the organization has amassed a group of people, from all over the world. There are currently over 60 chapters worldwide, with 45 in the US alone. To know more Click Here
But, Why “Bank Of America Chicago Marathon” ?
“Education in INDIA is not a luxury” its a Fundamental Right !
The world cannot reach its goal to have every child complete primary school by 2015 without India.

My Running Experience:
UrbanAthlon- Oct 15th 2011 ;3 Miles-32 min
Hot Chocolate – Nov 5th 2011;9.4 Miles- 1 Hr 31 Min
Half Marathons “All State 13.1 Marathon” & “Rock and Roll” on June and July 2012 completing in less than 2 Hr 20 Min.
Mileage:-250+ miles of outdoor running experience.
Being an experienced runner and trying to raise a fund for the first time, Completing 26.2 miles in 5Hr 30Min is not as challenging as raising a fund of $1000!
I am a zero overhead runner with “TEAM ASHA” that means all the donations made will go to ASHA.All donations are tax deductible. I am aware that this one little effort of raising a fund may not drastically resolve the overall education issue of every other underprivileged children in India!

Thank You in advance for supporting me in reaching my goal and I sincerely appreciate your support for this cause.
