Paying it forward.
Hope is a muscle, someone once rightfully said. And at Asha for Education, we agree. Through something as simple as primary education, real change is now within reach of thousands that live in the disadvantaged communities that Asha serves through its projects all over India. And this has brought with it the hope for better futures.
This is my third fundraising marathon effort for Asha for Education since 2005, and I hope to be a continuing part of this change. My goal is to raise $1000 AND more as my personal way of being responsible for doing a small part of what needs to be done.
In what is now a changing face of democratic India and its afflicted political scene, we have the responsibility to make things better. It would be wrong to sit back and let things go from bad to worse, when we actually have the power to rectify what, in part, ails the nation. When we give to those that don’t have the means to exercise their basic rights, we give them the opportunity to demand better for themselves.
I once read that if nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies! Education is our way at Asha of affecting the changes that matter; of helping the disadvantaged push for opportunities that are bigger, better and just plain RIGHT. It helps in giving them the chance to create crucially needed change – something that they can ill afford to do. And it helps them ensure their own individual success.
Every success story that comes out of our educational projects continues then to rightfully add more fuel to the Asha passion. And I must add, that the entire organization is a 100% volunteer ( and a 100% passion) driven- this means that after paying the 1-2% operational costs that include publicity, fees to local authorities, etc. , ALL the rest of the funds we raise each year, reach our schools and vocational centers. And we are so proud of being able to do that. Your support will help in keeping the Asha cause of socioeconomic change through education an ongoing one. Here at the Chicago chapter, like at others, this support helps keep our projects operational, and our students out of the labor force and in school where they should rightfully be.
And so I hope, with your help, to bring hope through education.
