I am running the Rock and Roll half marathon (Aug-14, 2011), Chicago half marathon(Sept-11, 2011) & Chicago marathon (Oct-9, 2011) to support Asha’s educational and development projects in India.
I have been associated with Asha for a few years now and I can honestly say that each dollar that you donate is put to good use. I thank you from the bottom of my heart in advance:)

Brief write up on Asha

Asha’s mission is to catalyze socioeconomic change in India through education of its underprivileged children.
Literacy is one of the basic necessities for growth and development. Today in India, there are over 350 million uneducated people, 50 million more than the population of United States. Without any education, families for generations live in poverty. Child labor and child marriage are still a norm in these societies. Asha was formed with the belief that education is a strategic tool that we can use to bring people out the vicious cycle.
In keeping with this focus, Asha volunteers worldwide are involved with and support projects that are secular and have an education-related component to them. The objectives of this group are:
* To provide education to underprivileged children in India.
* To encourage the formation of various local groups across the world to reach out to larger sections of the population.
* To support and cooperate with persons and groups already engaged in similar activities.
* To raise the required human and other resources to achieve the group objectives.
* To provide opportunities to individuals living outside India who wish to participate in Asha activities in India.
* To address, whenever possible, other issues affecting human life such as health care, environment, socio-economic aspects and women’s issues.
* In particular I am raising funds to support 4 projects supported by Asha Chicago’s Gramya, Navjyoti, Asmita, and Aralu. Together these four projects support approximately 1000 children, including 7 slow learners.
* I hope you will contribute generously towards my cause and help me bring education to a few underprivileged children in India.
